Chornobyl Archive, Chapter III
"Attention! Attention! Today, on April 27, in connection with the accident at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, the city of Pripyat is emerging as vulnerable to radiation situation. It becomes necessary to conduct a temporary evacuation of the city's inhabitants. It is recommended to take documents with you, highly necessary things, and food for the short term. We ask you to remain calm, to maintain organization and order during the temporary evacuation!" An announcement was broadcast on radio in Pripyat on April 27, 1986. The voice belongs to the announcer of the Pripyat city radio - Nina Melnik.
On that day the story of flourishing cities and villages in the Chernobyl area ended. Most people never came back to their homes. Family photos and memorable letters were covered with a thick layer of trash and mud. The more time went on, the fewer memories of people, who inhabited those lands, remained.
